The ASMPH Center for Research and Innovation is the research unit of the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health. We are a growing team of researchers across various subjects of interests including health systems, mental health, neuro-developmental disorders, environmental health, medical equipment, and digital health, among others. We strive to develop research outputs that can impact not only the learning community within the university, but most especially practitioners, policymakers, and community members in the Philippines and across the globe.
ADMINISTRATION
Dr. Tanchanco received her Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the Ateneo de Manila University, and graduated Doctor of Medicine from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center. She underwent the residency training in Pediatrics and fellowship in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at the Philippine General Hospital, where she also obtained her Master's degree in Clinical Epidemiology. Dr. Tanchanco is an Associate Professor and appointed Director for Research and Innovation at the ASMPH. She is a consultant for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics of The Medical City. She is the co-founder and clinic director of MedMom Institute for Human Development. Dr. Tanchanco has been invited to numerous conferences locally and internationally to speak as an expert in her field.

Dr. Theo Prudencio Juhani Z. Capeding is a researcher at the Ateneo Center for Research and Innovation whose work focuses on health systems, policy, and program implementation. His research includes studies on neonatal care access and health policies such as the Universal Health Care Act. He also teaches health governance at the Ateneo School of Government, integrating research and real-world public health practice into the classroom. Beyond academia, Dr. Capeding serves as Executive Director of the Philippine Foundation for Equity in Health and Secretary-General of the Philippine Society of Public Health Physicians, leading public health initiatives and partnerships across sectors. He holds degrees from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the Development Academy of the Philippines, and the University of the Philippines Manila.

MENTAL HEALTH SCIENCE
Dr. Nadera is a fellow of the Philippine Psychiatric Association. Dr. Dinah Palmera P. Nadera is actively involved in different mental health initiatives for government and civil society organizations in various capacities in the areas of training, research, policy, and legislation. She is also the founding president of the Foundation for Advancing Wellness, Instruction and Talents, an NGO focused on advocacy, research, and capacity building for the cause of mental health using arts as a key strategy. Dr. Nadera graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a degree in B.S. Psychology, completed her medical education at the Virgen Milagrosa University in San Carlos City Pangasinan, and obtained degrees in Master of Science in Epidemiology (Public Health) from the University of the Philippines Manila and Master of International Mental Health from the University of Melbourne. She completed her residency training in psychiatry at the National Center for Mental Health.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
Dr. Gelo Apostol is a physician, educator, and researcher specializing in Environmental Public Health and Climate-Resilient Health Systems. He serves as a technical advisor to the Philippine Inter-Agency Committee on Environmental Health, working with government, academia, civil society, and the private sector to advance policies and programs for public and planetary health. Over the past decade, Dr. Apostol has contributed to major environmental health initiatives, including the Philippines’ National Environmental Health Action Plan (NEHAP 2030), the Philippine One Health Action Plan, climate and infectious disease research, air pollution control, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) efforts through a One Health approach. He earned his Doctor of Medicine and MBA degrees from the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health and the Ateneo Graduate School of Business. He also completed an MSc in Global Public Health at the Queen Mary University of London and is currently pursuing a PhD at James Cook University.

BIOTECHNOLOGY
She's highly interested in pursuing research in the genetics and molecular biology aspects of neurodevelopmental diseases, such as autism spectrum disorder. Her experience mostly revolves around laboratory-based work, primarily through research with the Ateneo Autism Study Group (AASG) in conducting fragile X syndrome testing. However, she's also interested in public health research and has joined projects, such as a COVID-19 seroprevalence study, and the COVID-19 vaccine costing study in the Philippines.

Dr. Annelle Chua is a physician and researcher who works on health research, strategic planning, and innovation initiatives. She also practices as an occupational health physician, providing primary care services in workplace settings. She previously trained at the Manila Observatory, where she gained experience in geographic information systems (GIS), environmental research, and data analysis. Dr. Chua earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Ateneo de Manila University
